On turning 20

So here's the situation: I'm sat in bed and it's about 1 hour and 19 minutes until my 20th birthday - it's safe to say I'm freaking out a little. Soon I will no longer be a teenager and that's terrifying to say the least. I know 20 is still young, really young in fact, but growing up is a daunting process. All I can think about is 'Xenia, what have you achieved in your first 20 years of life?' or 'Xenia, you need to know exactly what you're doing with your whole life by now'; but let's be real here, no one knows what they're doing with their life at 20 and that's okay. It's okay to be a bit lost, to not know how to 'do life'. But if there's one thing I do know at this age, it's that I've learnt a lot of life lessons, so in honour of this - here are 20 things I've learned as I turn 20.

1. Your style will be very questionable growing up
2. Not being popular in high school doesn't matter, it doesn't affect your life prospects in any way
3. Don't dwell on your failure negatively, learn from it and then suck it up and move on
4. One day you'll realise your GCSE's were the easiest time of your life
5. You're not gonna know what you want to do with your life at 17 and that's okay
6. University isn't for everyone, AND THAT'S OKAY!
7. If you've been single your whole life AGAIN THAT IS OKAY
8. Good friends will be some of the most important people in your life
9. Being there for your friends because you love them is very rewarding, don't just do it in order to get a favour in return.
10. Your family will be some of the most important people in your life
11. It's okay to choose your own path in life, as scary as it can be, only you know what can bring you happiness
12. Feminism is important.
13. Being the youngest child gives you good practice in taking crap from others
14. It's okay to fail sometimes, or a lot of times, you learn from this stuff.
15. If something doesn't make you happy, you can walk away
17. When you help your friends out with their love lives, you can learn a heck of a lot from it too
18. Always make sure to take some time to focus on yourself
19. Spend time with your family, it's important
20. Don't live your life for other people, live it for you

  1. I'm also turning 20 this year (but in December, so I get to be a teenager for a little longer), and I agree with all of these (except idk about being the youngest child, I'm the oldest). Dancing is really freaking amazing! Happy belated birthday (from a total stranger haha :)
